The Adoption Book of the Day for Today is “The Kid: What Happened After My Boyfriend and I Decided to Go Get Pregnant” by Dan Savage!

“The Kid” tells the thrilling story of Dan and Terry as they traverse the journey of domestic, open adoption in the 1990’s. Using his experience as a writer, Dan is able to enthusiastically communicate all of the feelings and thoughts that they experience during their adoption process. Oftentimes, Dan is rather blunt with the thoughts and ideas that he feels. While this may be inappropriate or too much information at some points (especially during the tales of Terry and his personal life), there are also some instances where Dan brings very realistic commentary to the common emotions that are experienced in the adoption process. Dan’s ability to write exactly what he and Terry felt, or are feeling, is one of the several reasons why this book is an irreplaceable resource during the adoption journey.

While this book is written about a same-sex couple adopting a child domestically, it is not solely for only same-sex couples to read. Sexuality aside, this book encompasses the very real processes that any couple in the adoption process would face. Needless to say, there is also some very useful information for same-sex couples as well. It is in this sense that “The Kid” is able to connect to the entirety of individuals who are traversing the journey of adoption!
