From the author of “Hi My Name is Hanna and I’m Adopted”

Through my experience I have come in contact with many different family make ups, including foster children and adoption. I had an opportunity to meet an amazing little girl and hear about her story, a story that became such an unexplainable inspiration. Despite the transitions ‘Hanna’ went through at such a young age, she is amazingly confident, strong willed, witty, loving, positive, creative, determined, honest…my list could go on and on! The book “Hi My Name is Hanna and I’m Adopted” is only a fraction of events that she experienced during her first year of leaving her native country of Ethiopia and living with her forever family in America. Some of the events I captured were typical of all children…liking new foods, learning new hobbies, making new friends, and learning a new language. Her ability to overcome and flourish, while I know at times were beyond difficult, was the inspiration in not only writing this book, but also to overcoming my own issues, taking chances, and taking myself down a new path in life.

‘Hi My Name is Hanna and I’m Adopted‘ was written in three-fold. First, to share with other adopted children some of the changes that they may experience and to reassure them that their new mommy and daddy would be there to help them through it. Secondly, I wanted the story to reach all readers as empowering and inspirational…that anyone can overcome obstacles in life, nothing is too difficult to achieve if you put your mind to it. And finally, to talk about differences and acceptance. While we sometimes conform and learn to like many things that others like, we are unique and that is OK! That is what makes us “us” and what we should accept and embrace in everyone.
